At Runday, we never run out of news

At Runday, we are always excited to see fresh energy and new faces step forward to support local running communities. This month, we are thrilled to welcome Oleksandr Lopanov, who has taken on the role of organiser in Mariupol. His story is one of dedication, resilience and love for sport.

A Life Rooted in Movement

Oleksandr’s professional life is in healthcare, but his personal passions have always revolved around staying active. For years, he has trained in athletics and Street Workout, believing that movement is the key to balance and wellbeing. After completing his military service, he returned home determined to bring more opportunities for people to be active together.

That’s when he heard about Runday. Inspired by its mission, he knew straight away that he wanted to be part of it.

Picking Up the Baton

When the previous organisers in Mariupol stepped back, Oleksandr didn’t hesitate to take the lead. He saw that Runday was more than just a weekly run — it was a chance to create a space where health, connection, and community thrive.

Stepping into this role has not been without challenges. Even something as simple as keeping phones working smoothly can become an obstacle. But for Oleksandr, the rewards far outweigh any setbacks. What motivates him most is seeing people who truly care about their health come together each week.

A Record-Holding Runner

Oleksandr isn’t just an organiser — he’s also a serious athlete. He holds the Ukrainian record for Runday, proof of his commitment and talent. But for him, running isn’t about chasing times alone. It’s also a way to clear his mind and recharge.

“When I run,” he says, “I don’t think about anything. It’s just me and the movement.”

Inspiration

Before joining Runday, Oleksandr was already making a difference in his community. He organised regional Street Workout competitions and volunteered with the “From Country to Country” project. For him, supporting others has always been as important as pursuing personal goals.

When asked who inspires him, he points to Viktor Kuts and the book From Beginner to Master of Sports. Their stories remind him that great achievements always start with passion and discipline.

What Runday Means to Oleksandr

To Oleksandr, Runday is more than an event on the calendar. It’s a hobby that brings purpose and joy. It’s a community where people look out for each other, no matter their background or running experience. Stay tuned for more stories of passion and progress from Runday across Ukraine.
